What a fun weekend!! Just recently RIM released the desktop manager v5.0.1 which introduces the feature to EASILY setup the Blackberry as an IP modem (tethered modem) and I’ve been using this all weekend.
Now, all you have to do is click on several buttons and you’ll be connected to the Internet via the Blackberry Desktop Manager – you just have to make sure your blackberry is connected to your laptop or pc. Great stuff guys! Here’s some screenshots:

German magazine Horizont published today very interesting interview with Dirk Hülsermann, Director of Business Development at Neo Advertising and president of OVAB Europe. Title of the article is “Gold-digger mood is dominating the market” is more than indication of what is the interview about.
Among other things, we learn from this interview that the OVAB Europe is opening the doors for the OOH companies, which is an important move in the development of the association. Out-of-home media are today around 5-6 % digitalized. Mr. Hülsermann sees no danger in the customers getting bored with digital signage, since the information displayed is in the interest of the passengers. It can come to satiety only if the screens are running advertisement exclusively. And, last but not least, the next level of the digital signage development is in interactivity.
Good reading, I would recommend it to all our German speaking readers.

Google has recently invited selected google account members to the “google wave”, and just recenlty I was wondering how Advertise Me could integrate this new communication tool with digital signage. Fortunately, the digital signage players we use will allow us to quite easily integrate google wave as the system is web capable.
If I understand how google wave works, it would mean that updating content will be easier than before and it may also mean that a CMS (Content Management Server) may no longer be needed. I’ll stop here and keep pondering and brainstorming.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.

Wow. Talking about creativity! Talking about impact! In case you missed it; last week there was an announcement about Bus.tops (see bus-tops.com). They invented THE most creative use of screens, to reduce dwell time amongst things I presume, on top of Bus stops! Bus travelers can text message to the screen! I never believed in interactivity within digital signage. I always thought it is too much of a hassle. Bus.tops is the first idea that really makes me doubt my own doubts about interactivity.

Bus.tops fits for 100%! Remember Hannibal form the A-team? ‘I love it when a plan comes together.’ The name is so well found, so ambiguous. Great creativity. As I read their blog, they really got freedom from ‘Art Public’, the sponsor of it all. And it is fun. They created a fun box out of one of the most boring places in the world, a bus stop! Combine this with the most fun event in the world, The Olympics to be held in London 2012 and London will become an even more fun city than they are now!
London from Arts Council England on Vimeo.
This is what has to be preached by everyone within our business; use your creativity to create impact for digital signage. So Three big cheers for Bus.tops! And also for ‘Art Public’.

Eye tracking analytics has become one of the next big things in digital signage. We came across an open source eye tracking software which uses ordinary web cameras called opengazer. http://www.inference.phy.cam.ac.uk/opengazer/ We didn’t have enough time to test the application but here’s a video from their website:

Siel-Satis-Radio is one of the two big digital signage events in France. L’Affichage Dynamique had a significant place at this years show, which took place October 20-22 in Paris, although the ultimate themes were broadcast tv and audio. Nevertheless, almost full digital signage food chain was presented – in the puzzle, only content creation and integrator representatives were missing.
Two main trends are spotted, or better say, confirmed over there:
About the show itself… next to the very fancy VIP club (see the photo above), Apple Village was, as usual, eye catching, this time with open training area for software products (of course, software compatible with their products).
Très bien!
