More than 400 visitors at NEC Competence Day

Posted by minicom On May - 31 - 2009

The NEC Competence Day 2009 attracted more than 400 visitors. Most of them attended several presentations in the conference area. Especially the presentation of Ms. Isabel Gutschow (Neo Advertising) about the Cinemaxx project, the presentation of Mr. Dirk Hülsermann about OVAB (Out-of-home Advertising Bureau Europe) and the Invidis presentation about the potentials in the DS market have been crowd pullers. The atmosphere on this outstandingly organized event was optimistic especially for the projects in quarter III and IV 2009.

Digital Signage Capacity Analysis by Invidis & CRN

Posted by minicom On May - 27 - 2009

Invidis and Computer Reseller News announced the publishing  the first results of their “Channel Ready” campaign during the NEC’s day in München.

2009-05-channel-ready-ergebnisse

During April and May over 1.000 telephone interviews were conducted – two main target groups were ITK channel and industrial endusers. The results should give us “a detailed picture of reseller landscape, which should be used as guidelines for developing the partner programs and support measures.”

Digital signage and the Australian National Broadband Network

Posted by digitalsignageblog On May - 25 - 2009

If you haven’t heard, Australian the Federal Government is planning to spend 43 billion dollars to upgrade the Australian network infrastructure. What’s been interesting is the fact that the government did not award this project to any of the major Telcos – it will all be in house. Well this may potentially mean the infrastructure will not be monopolised by any of the Telcos. This is definitely a good thing for consumers.
Now if you’re a digital signage company you may be wondering how this may impact you. The first thing that popped into my mind was “more bandwidth…. means more bandwidth intensive applications can be used on the digital signage system”.

Here’s a list of things that popped into my mind when this was announced:

  • stream or cache high definition videos to the screens – this includes live TV,  Foxtel, and even live events
  • develop real time applications on the digital signage systems
  • shorter waiting times for content synchronisations
  • integrate the digital signage system with wireless hotspots
  • integrate with the upcoming digital radio services
  • develop interactive applications that require low latency and high bandwidth
  • real time monitoring of digital signage networks and quicker troubleshooting/response times

Seeing several opportunities, Advertise Me will hopefully launch several innovative solutions in the next couple of years so watch this space.

What innovative digital signage applications do you see taking advantage of high speed networks?

Feel free to submit your answer as a comment.

LCD Demand rising or dropping in Asia?

Posted by minicom On May - 18 - 2009

Contradictory news coming from the Far East. On one hand, BenQ’s Asia Pacific VP Danny Yao reported signs of decline on the market demand for LCD monitors. On the other hand, TCL announced the increase of 82.6% in the month of April. And Chimei reported that the shipments of LCD TVs are up 30% annually in Q1.

But what all agree is that the prices of panels are going to continue to rise in Q3, thanks to the tight supply.

[ Digital Signage Content ] : Engaging vs Interactive Content – by: matran

I wanted to start a thread to discuss whether content should be engaging or interactive.

I know this depends on what the client requirements are, but what do most digital signage integrators recommend….

Has anyone used a digital signage player that is using firefox + linux + adobe flash and noticed a white splash screen when flash is initially loaded. This is very noticeable when there is a black background and the page is refreshed.

The canvas in flash has already been changed to black and this didn’t help.

Using the transparent mode on the html template to load the flash does not work either – doesn’t work on linux.

Using a div layer also doesn’t fix this.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this issue?…

Advertising on Airport Stuttgart

Posted by minicom On May - 13 - 2009

Magic Poster, for those that are not very familiar with European market, is a German company, specialized in out-of-home advertising (ger. Aussenwerbung). Among other things, they are selling the advertising space / time at the Airport Stuttgart InfoNet .

Flughafen_stuttgart

Wartebereich

The whole InfoNet has been split into 4 networks – business (with 164 screens), general (167 screens), kombi network (328 screens) & premium – a giant 103 inches screen at the straircase to departure area.

Special_screen_01

The estimate is 40.000 visitors per day, who would be looking at one’s commercials for these prices.

Digital Signage is everywhere

Posted by digitalsignageblog On May - 12 - 2009

We’ve been pretty busy working on a project and slacked off in posting blog entries. We’ll hopefully post information about the project that we are working on at a later stage but we thought we’d mention how digital signage is everywhere. We recently walked in the busy streets of Bondi junction Australia and noticed how common it was for businesses to have display screens in their stores. The majority of these shop were displaying content from a DVD player, or showing live TV whilst others were actually displaying in house advertisements.

One thing that I noticed was that even thought Mothers day was approaching, not many businesses had any relevant messages relating to this event. Even today, being mothers day, businesses were not using digital signage to their advantage. Oh well maybe its just Australia… My thinking is that maybe one day, businesses will be educated and skilled in the digital signage technology to update and stay connected with their audience.

Digitalsignageexpo 2009 resume

Posted by minicom On May - 9 - 2009

With more than 3300 visitors the Digitalsignageexpo in Essen was successfull. Most of the comments of the exhibitors have been very postive. Also the organizer Jens Schindler was very happy when I spoke with him. And here and there we heard rumours that new Digital Signage rollouts will start in the third quarter 2009…

Digitalsignageexpo 2009 LIVE

The start of the Digitalsignageexpo 2009 in Essen has already proved to be very successful with a large turnout of visitors.
Especially the booths of the marketleaders 42 media (Peter Dombrowski in discussion with customers), Unicol and the booth of the market-known consultants from Invidis (picture Florian Rotberg discussing with prospects) has attracted a lot interest from the visitors.

Digital Signage Expo 2009 starts tomorrow

Posted by minicom On May - 5 - 2009

The Digital Signage Expo 2009 will open tomorrow and all of the exhibitors have been today very excited about the coming 3 days. The organizers see the show as a truly pan-European Digital Signage show. Compared with the Screenmedia Expo in London I see this show more as a show for the DACH region with the majority of visitors coming from Germany. Which could also be good. The main players like NEC, 42media, Seenmedia, Unicol, Blackbox and IBM are at this show. So for the visitors this show will be worthwhile. To get an overview about all elements of the Digital Signage Puzzle it is still time to register for the Digital Signage Expert tour at http://www.minicomdigitalsignage.com/events/dse09.cfm .
